Science of Mind is a New Thought movement which honors the spiritual path of all seekers.
The founder, Dr. Ernest Holmes, believed that there is a Power in the Universe greater than we are, and we have the ability to use this Power to enhance the quality of our lives.
Mountain Vista United Center for Spiritual Life follows Dr. Holmes's precepts; our spiritual teacher, Reverend Rita Foster, guides and teaches us to live a more centered and spiritual life.
Teaching Chapter
Teaching Chapter is a fairly new designation of membership in United Centers for Spiritual Living. This designation confers the same rights and responsibilities as a traditional church. What is different is the format. Our Sunday gathering is less formal and more interactive. Reverend Rita gives a Science of Mind and Spirit message; there is a spiritual practice such as meditation, visioning, journal writing, etc, and then discussion about how we can more effectively practice our principles in our daily lives.
Community members have said the benefit to them is the opportunity to ask questions, suggest topics they are interested in exploring more deeply and both give and receive support in manifesting their desires or moving through a challenge. Our format centers a spiritual principle through the message and encourages the inner wisdom within each person to guide their individual learning.
This method is one taught by the mystical teacher Emma Curtis Hopkins with whom Ernest Holmes and other founders of New Thought religions studied. Her premise is that we can only really know what we teach ourselves. Our services are a supportive setting in which self-teaching can occur.
Our meetings are vibrant and joy-filled, taking wisdom from Saint Hildegard of Bingen who said that transformation occurs in settings where the Spirit is invited to come out and play. No one has ever been inspired by criticism and judgment.
